Robot Systems

Robot Systems typically include five different categories, working together as a whole:

Controller - Programming - Body - Mobility - Modules

The controller is the robot's brain and controls the robot's movements. It's usually a computer of some type which is used to store information about the robot and the work environment and to store and execute programs which operate the robot. The control system contains programs, data algorithms, logic analysis and various other processing activities which enable the robot to perform.

Programming robots can be very easy or very complicated, depending on the robots capabilities and the application(s) it needs to be programmed for. The software can be a graphical user interface or code based. You don't have to be a software engineer or programmer anymore in order to program robots.

The body of a robot can have any shape related to the job it must perform. It can have wheels, legs, rotors, fins and can be anything you want it to be.

A robots mobility all depends on the job they have to do and the environment they operate in.

On Land: Many robots use wheels for locomotion like the Mars Rover. It uses six wheels to go over obstacles with ease.

In the water: Unmanned or human controlled robots are used in science and industry throughout the world, like the undersea robot at the Gulf of Mexico's oil leak. They use propellers and rudders to control their direction of travel.

In the Air: Robots that operate in the air are often called drones. They are typically being used by the police for traffic and crowd control or for military applications.

Robots have modules to be able to react to their environment, to see, hear, feel or sense things. Modules used for robot systems can be sensors, receivers, cameras, navigation, voice, infrared, communication or many other modules.
